Animal Testing is Cruel

Animal testing is unethical and cruel to the animals. Animals feel too! When people use animal testing, they are torturing the animals with experiments often times unnecessary and hurtful to the animal being tested.

Some argue that animal testing does have its place - that even such tests that seem to have no reason but to torture the animal, do have a reason, and do improve science.

But what science is it to strap a monkey to a board, cut its back open without anesthetics, and sever out it's nerve endings (as done in the Silversprings case)? Both arms are paralyzed, and directly after this painful surgery, the monkey is then forced into a small cage. It can not pick up it's meager amount of food, and must slowly shuffle forward and lean their head down like a bird to eat with their rotten and infected teeth. The monkey is paralyzed, and forced to live with it's deadened limb. Many of these test subjects go crazy, and tear the fingers of the paralyzed limbs in the jagged metal of their cage doors. They are hurt, infected, hungry, paralyzed, and otherwise sick. Out of at least 20 monkeys in this experiment, almost all of them died.

Is that science?

Rabbits are tied up and nail polish and other cosmetic products are applied to their eyes to test if putting cosmetics in your eyes will hurt your eyes.

Is that science?

Monkeys are force fed drain cleaner, which burn away their insides of a pipe, to see if consuming drain cleaner will burn away your insides.

Is that science?

Cats are shot in the head to prove that being shot in the head impairs breathing.

Is that science?

Rats are put in a giant tub of water and drown to test if male or female rats can stay afloat longer.

Is that science?

Who cares what rat can stay afloat longer! What is the practical use of knowing which gender rat is more "floaty"? Is there a small difference? Do you have a good reason for doing this seemingly stupid and cruel experiment? If you do, then test it on HUMANS. Humans can swim, and humans can have lifeguards to pull them out if anything happens. But then again, you shouldn't, because you really have no scientific reasons to test this, other than for your amusement on seeing small rats flailing around in the water.

And why prove something that is already proven with COMMON SENSE? If you ♥♥♥♥♥ any living creature in the head, it will most likely die. And dieing tends to impair everything. Including breathing. If you apply chemicals to your eyes, or eat acidic, corroding drain cleaner, that's used to burn/melt away all the junk in the drains, then by common sense you'll know that eating this stuff probably isn't a good idea. Just put, "do not eat" on the label anyways, because even without testing, you should keep this toxic stuff away from younger kids. These tests are just crazy. You may as well slap yourself to see if slapping yourself hurts.

These "testing facilities" are more like concentration camps for animals. What exactly did that animal do to THEM, that gives them the right to hurt all these animals? For the Silversprings case, I'm not even entirely sure what was being tested. Brain maps? Reflexes? Death rate?

And often times these tests are even inaccurate. Sometimes things that apply to other animals do not apply to humans. For example, when people found toxic mold/dust spores sent in the mail, scientist decided to test to see if they really were toxic and harmful. They had animals inhale them, but found that you needed a very large amount to do any harm. Unfortunately, these spores have a much different - much deadlier - effect on humans.

These tests are unnecessary, cruel, and unethical. This is science, and science needs logic an reasoning. Does it make sense that shooting something in the head will hurt it's breathing? Does it make sense that swallowing drain cleaning will hurt your insides? And who cares about rats floating in water? Why even do these useless experiments?

In conclusion... say NO to Animal Testing!

Fun Friday: Visting McDonald HeadQuarters

A few days before, I saw Kong-Fu Panda. It was fun.

But yesterday was really fun. The morning wasn't that great though: I spent some time posting around BTT for a while, then my mom dragged me and my twin brothers to the car for a long drive to my dad's office. She's a really bad driver, so while we were turning, she stopped in the middle of the road and tried to merge in. Anyway, she drove 20 below the speed limit the whole way. Eventually our dad left work, met us about 1/2 a mile from his office (my mom drove there and stopped, and wouldn't keep going on the excuse that she would get lost), and we followed him to McDonalds headquarters.

Yes, you heard me right, McDonalds headquarters! My dad works at McDonalds (no, he is not the guy that works at the counter and says "and would you like fries with that?). He works there as a computer guy, making programs and works with statistics. So it's like, "There are alot of kids here. We should build a playground at this McDonald, to attract kid costumers and their parents".

The McDonald headquarters is actually amazing! It's also very modern. It's inside a forested area, surrounded by trees. You'd think you were going into an arboretum if not for the little signs that had pointed to places that definitely are not in an arboretum, such as "Hamburger University"* The tiles are all natural and rock looking, but the roads are paved and stuff.

So we went inside, and everywhere on the walls there were funky paintings and sculptures - everything from glass stacked together and carved into a face, to a paper mache thing of this guy juggling hamburgers. The person at the receptionist desk gave us free Kong-Fu Panda happy meal toys - we got PrayMantis and TyLung (the evil leopord tiger wolf guy).

They were having Earth Friendly Friday, so there were no cups and you have to bring your own reusable one. We got drinks at the free... fountain... thing... whatever, then went and visited my dads "cubicle", which was on a really high floor. So high that if i looked over the railing and down, I got scared.

It's a really big cubicle with wood... cube edges... and it can fit 4 people - one at each corner. The people sitting at the other side were architects, and we got to see their designs. They weren't there though, because they already went home (almost nobody was there, although there was this scientist/doctor type person in a white doctory/scientisty coat, who does experiments on the food, who was looking at charts on her computer). We still got to see their designs, which were posted up on walls, and 3D models and CAD (computer aided design) drawings.

Afterward, we went downstairs and went to the McDonald inside the McDonald headquarters. Since there was nobody their, the food was all fresh and hot from the... grease... oil... uh, freshly cooked. They have electronic ordering - like electronic checkout with the touchscreen and you scan your own items, only at a McDonald. We ordered and they brought the food to our table, and we at and watched TV at the same time. I had a premium chicken... sandwich.. thing...

Then we went back to the office, and we got a map to this waterpark we've been to before. So we drove there, splashed around. It was raining, but not lightning-ing, so we stayed but the water was extra cold. My younger brothers started shivering, and the youngest sat out most of the time. I watched him for a while. It wasn't really big, but the place had a waterslide, a "lazy river", regular swimming pool with some kids water slides, and a small water playground type thing.

Then afterward we went to a gas station and bought a bottle of 7UP, then went to a Chinese restaurant, which was really popular with great food. My favorite was this really spicy shrimp.

Later we left, went back to the McDonalds office thing, and my dad got his car (we had both cars there and drove the bigger one to the waterpark, came back to get the car dad went to work in). Then we went home.

I'm writing a story called... well, it's called "An Untitled Story" (which is also the name of a computer game). It's a fictional story, that's very strange.

I'm also writing a short story so I can enter it into this contest at www.betweentalk.com, for 20 tween-cha-cha, their "currency". It's actually not evenough to buy any "tweenie" stuff (virtual items), but whatever...

I'm learning morse code and how to play soccer. Which reminds me! I was going to look up soccer rules online, and I still need to learn the rest of those letters in morse code.

Comparing this book to others in the genre, I don't care. GAHHHH I WANNA DO SOMETHING - ACH - get it together, now where was I UGHGGHGHG. CHICKEN FINGRES!

Argonne Laboratories Field Trip

Today the class went on a field trip to Argonne laboratories. Here's how it went:

Got to school. Forgot to pack a lunch for the field trip.
English: my incomplete persuasive paper was peer edited.
Went onto the school-bus; we drove for an hour to get to Argonne Laboratories.
Went to the Welcome Center there; looked at the "artifacts", finger turned shiny and metallic by rubbing it on a graphite rock they had there.
Back onto the bus, drove through the entrance place.
Entered the actual laboratories, went downstairs, like some basement.
Visited the first place on our "tour"! This was pretty interesting. We got to play with dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide). We all sat down, picking up goggles on our way in, which I hate because the top of my nose is very sensitive and it goggles or anything else on the top of my nose makes me really annoyed and stuff. Anyway: We all sat down on stools, in front of tables like one would see in a science lab. The scientist guy at the front demonstrated some fun with dry ice; he asked us questions and one particularly bright 8th grader answered them all. The scientist a hunk of dry ice into a container of water, and we all watched as it fizzed and steamed. Now he came around to each table with an ice box full of dry ice, using scissors to crack the ice and dump some onto each of our tables. We filled plastic tubes full of dry ice peices, held the end closed and waited until the pressure from the dry ice turning into a gas cause the tube to EXPLODE! I myself never managed to get it to work, although some 6th grader sitting across from me did, right in everyones faces, while she was talking to a friend. Lucky we had goggles. Someone else managed to get their dry ice to turn into a liquid (due to the intense pressure). Then we all had to leave.
Next, we went to a room with a bunch of "spectrophotonic", or something like that, machines. This was pretty boring: the scientist in this room (a retired biology teacher) talked really slow. The machine produced light which you could adjust by increasing or decreasing the wavelengths using a knob. Makes me think - if I adjusted it really high, would I be able to create x-rays? or gamma rays! *twist twi-* ZAP! She talked a bunch, and then we all left. (yawn)
Now we all went to a even better room, (put on goggles) and the scientist guy there (no meanness intended) made me think of the older version of a stereotypical nerd. But that was mean )= so i won't say that anymore. Anyhow, here we learned about LIQUID NITROGEN! Whoohoo! It was cool - literally. Here's what happened: The group went into the room and took our seats in a messed up bunch mini-swivel chairs. We all waited, and the scientist talked to us about Absolute Zero, what nitrogen is, atoms, air molecules, etc. so that we would understand how his next few experiments worked. Then he put a glass beaker in the middle of the floor/room, and he wheeled over a giant "pot" of liquid nitrogen, and poured it into the glass beaker. It sloshed into the beaker and all over the floor. Very exciting, because the liquid nitrogen slimed across the floor like it was weightless, like some kind of incredible gravity defying slime, or something! Then he explained some more, and he poured the liquid nitrogen into a larger insulated container. He then blew a balloon up, and we all discussed why the balloon inflates and why you can't flatten it. This is because it obviously has air in it, and the air was moving very quickly and pushing against the sides of the balloon. If the air were to be standing still though, then it would only be the size of a peanut. He then stuffed the balloon into the insulated canister of liquid nitrogen, and it came out flatter than a pancake. Afterwards, he put it on the floor and we all watched the balloon make popping and crackling noises as the air inside was restored to room temperature. He repeated the experiment with a bouncy ball, except that when he dropped it after it had been in the nitrogen, the rubber bouncy ball shattered on the floor like glass (making a noise that made a bunch of people jump out of the seats). Then he poured some liquid nitrogen on a square of some rock, and put a magnet on it. The magnet hovered in midair. The material had somehow developed magnetic properties by being freezed. He said that he himself could not explain it, and if anyone ever did, they'd probably receive a Nobel prize. We then left, thinking about the hovering magnet.
Went to a room, looked under microscopes and pretended we were forensic scientists, trying to solve a murder. Boring topic, but the scientist was funny.
Got on the bus.
Drove to the Argonne Laboratories cafateria. I didn't bring my lunch, and I wasn't hungry anyway.
Left, went onto the bus and drove back to school
Hung out for 20 minutes.
Went to the last class of the day, physical education, where we played badminton.
Packed up, went home.
Playing Brawl on the Wii for a time, unlocked 2 characters.
Started typing up stuff into this blog.
Finished typing up this post.

New computer!

I'm typing on my new computer now!

It's a Dell "Vostro 200" computer with Windows Vista premium home edition! Or something of that sort. And this computer is FAST - a ton faster that the old Dell Inspiron laptop (which, by that way, was $2,000 - this new computer runs 4 times faster and was 4 times cheaper - 500 bucks. What a ripoff - the laptop I mean)
It's awesome, because now, I can play all the great physics games WITHOUT LAG! And they're actually PLAYABLE! Such games include Luargu and Rigidchips (although something is wrong with Jello Car - no lag, but it always says there's some error...)

Anyway, we got ourselves (by we I mean my family and I) a new keyboard (before it was a "Dell QuietKey", which makes more sound that a rusted typewriter - quite some irony there), new monitor - smaller, but more efficient and clearer, new mouse (it was free, although now it's the ball mouse as apposed to the laser one which we had before - but it was new!), new.. uh... cables! New software, new games - YEAH! To top it all off, I finished all my homework, so I have plenty of time to hook up the new computer with fun games and gidgets and gadgets. Neat features this thing has.

One day man shall create a computer faster and more powerful than 10 of the supercomputers nowadays. When that time comes, people will have so much trouble searching the net for things that even give a challenge to their new PCs, that the companies will have to add useless details to every application and every detail to add more visual appeal, that being the only thing that they can do to advance their new computers as superior to others on the market, and for they would then be able to do so. Now we have Windows Vista, with the windows having transparent edges and the loading bars having a beautiful shiny green. In the future, moving the window around and slamming it at the edge of the screen will break the glass edges and the pieces will fall down in a realistic way - sparking and shining the window and desktop and the rest of the screen - and the loading bar will be naught but a seemingly simple glass tube with slimy green liquid, slowing dripping and oozing like radioactive ooze, spitting up like microbes as the loading progresses - or perhaps this supercomputer would not require loading bars at all.

That would be the computer I would buy - no, that would be the computer I would want to design.

Super Smash Bros Brawl

I just got Brawl (for Wii) 2 days ago (Saturday).

And it's pretty good!
Really, really good.

I wish I could play online, because the computer players can be a bit stupid - I beat 4 "9 - Nasty" difficulty computer players with Kirby. Best things about Kirby is he - it - (is Kirby a he?) can jump ridiculously high, and thus you can midair-jump back to the stage; transform into a impermeable/invincible rock (or other solid, heavy object such as a 100lb weight) for a set amount of time (or less than that if you want), and if you combine the jumping and the rock, you get crazy fast falling rock that smashes opponents willy-nilly on impact; and other stuff... And the review I read was right - "If you've ever found yourself arguing with a friend about whether or not Mario could beat Link in a one-on-one match, Brawl is the game that will let you settle the issue once and for all (the answer of course is that Kirby would eat them both)" - which is completely true. Some of the characters are definitely weaker than others. I pit some of them against eachother in a Level 9 Computer Controlled battle, and some lost by a lot.

Rigidchips Robots

I have been secretly working on a multiplayer automatic RigidChips robot vehicle. It's a sorta pun on bee, ant, and termite castes

I call it

THE SWARM
Queen - Largest main bot that deploys other mini-bots.
Soldier - Follows other bots and protects them with a machine gun for a head.
Worker - Attacking by laying down mines right in front of other players.
Drones - Emergency distraction bots that act like shields.

They're basic form looks something like this:

Unfortunately, I added some new transform-when-flipped-over code and it bugged, so now something is wrong with the Lua that I don't know. It's just plain annoying - checked all the ends, thens, ifs, (), and all that stuff! And every time the entire Lua gets an error. I can't figure out what is wrong with it. But I will figure it out. Not a big deal.

I'm thinking of making flying/hovering ones, but I think I should stick with ground-only ones for now, or things will get too complicated.

Homework Pileup

It seem that all the teachers have gone to sleep during Spring Break, and now "time to get back to work" explodes out of nowhere.

I understand that it may be that since all the topics/units/chapters ended before Spring Break, everybody has finished those and thrown new ones out like BAM here you go! *faints*
Well, it's not too bad. I can get a bunch of extra credit for doing my maps neatly, and I have read ahead in the book (that is, finished it... ruins it because it's a Agatha Christie mystery book: "The murderer is -" "SHHH! Don't ruin it for us!"). I have very systematic way of taking notes, and I don't have to do that now. And art is fun!
Still a lot of stuff to do...

Playing the Stapler.

I've discovered another cool thing:

You can play the stapler!

If you open the stapler, there's a big long spring, and you make bunches of boinging and springy and scratching noises! Thus, techno moosic! yea! And then when you close the stapler it makes a cool sskkkrink sound.

Statistics Tell of New Visitors

This is getting ridiculous. Either that the Hit Counter statistics are glitched in some way, or my blog gaining much more popularity than I thought. Look at this... (click it to enlarge, sorry about the smallness, blog layout is annoying)This is kinda weird. It seems I have a ton of First-Time and Unique visitors (people who've never been here for 24 hours and people who have visited for the first time). As for returning visitors, I can understand that - my blog isn't the place you go to visit ever few hours. Unique vistors, still understandable - people can check back daily to see if there's anything new. But the First-Time visitors is what's puzzling me. Where did these FirstTime visitors come from? I don't recall having advertised this blog that much. For there to be that many new people to visit this is just unnatural. Seriously.

Awsome game!

PMOG is "Passively Multiplayer Online Game". Like Massively... only passively! It only works if you have FireFox as your browser (many people have figured out now that Internet Explorer stinks). What it does is it adds a simple little toolbar to the bottom of your FireFox browser. Using this browsers, you can send messages to other players, place Mines that other players can step onto and get hit by when they visit that website, or you can be nice and leave behind crates, which can contain all sorts of stuff - from these Tools to some Datapoints, which are used to buy more crates, mines, etc. You also can wear armor in order to protect yourself from mines, and send out a St.Nick (sorta bug thing) to stop the mine. You may also place portals, missions, and lightposts. Every time you visit a new website you gain more Datapoints. And much more! And the screen shakes when you hit a mine!

Last Day of Spring Break

RigidChips W.I.P 4

The ATV, in mid-transformation
Here you can see the wings unfolding from underneath, the
back wheels folded up (may decide not to), and the jets spinning
into position. Glitch: Sometimes the jets fall off during transformation,
which obviously... well, isn't good. Also, I think I will make it so that
the back wheels do not fold inwards. Last problem I recently noticed
is that the guns are aiming slightly up, so I'll have to fix the pretty soon.

The ATV: Lift Off!
Here it is, starting to soar into the sky. Don't be fooled though - this fancy
looking flier doesn't really fly smoothly. This is because he jets aren't
in the right place, and the steering isn't done. Because of the jets
and this odd steering, the plane ends up doing somersaults into the air, and
really won't go anywhere - but at least lands safely due too it's nice ability
of balancing out when it starts to fall.

The truth is, I was planning on setting this aside for a while to work on homework and a different RigidChips creation not yet to be revealed (hint: it's meant for multiplayer mode: that is all I will say until I finish - no demos!). But I suddenly feel some pressure to work on this for a while. Tomorrow is homework day2, so I won't be online much anyhow. But I might just go with my plan. I've very proud of my other RigidChips model, so I really want to work on that, plus this airplane is hard! It's got a bunch of glitches and takes forever to make.

The Latest "version" of the ATV
It won't be done today, because I - that's right - messed up the transformation thing. So right now, when it transforms, the guns turn around and the jets push the wrong way, and the tail goes upside down. And if you even try to fly it, well, it just doesn't fly. And if you try to shoot it, it shoots itself and eventually breaks apart. And makes it even harder to fly. And if you try to speed up your flight, you smash into the ground and break into a million pieces. Yep.

Despite this mishap, I would say that the ATV is going pretty swell - a list of changes (mostly for myself to read, and figure out what I need to do):

Jets added correctly (but doesn't transform correctly). I figured out where to put them by inspiration from the RigidChips X-Prize model [by xmatt].
Repositioned wings. Back wings have been changed from Chip to Trim.
Turning stabilized. Not as powerful anymore, but reduces the chance of tipping over.
Back wheels smaller. Not too small, still has "uphill ability".
Fixed all the angles - Car Mode can now fly/glide! Just what I needed - user can then use car mode, get up to a OK speed, transform, leap into the air, go up way up high, then transform into a car 100s of feet in the sky and still nicely float to the ground. Makes for easy landing.

Here are some photos of it in simulated "Flying Mode". Despite the fact that it actually has no jets, if I get it to a high elevation (pressing the Y button a bunch of times) then let it drop to the ground, it always (unless there are extremely high winds or a wall to crash into right before landing) balances itself out and glides right-side up to the ground. Still - Work In Progress. Sorta looks ugly with the wheels. Added jets to accelerate it - but then it didn't look very good and the jets didn't seem to be in the right place to make it controllable. Will later post boat mode maybe, but not until I add the jets onto it - otherwise it'd be a pointless picture of an airplane drowning in water.

It flies almost as well, but not quite. Actually, it flies OK with the no
wings at all at least for a while, but, well, eventually goes into a nosedive.

itself out, and it's sort of circling a bit. As you can see, a bit ugly with
the wheels, but that can be fixed easily (hopefully =D )

I'm working on the transformation part of it right now, but sadly, I actually don't have time - durnig Spring Break! I still have a presentation and a art project to do - so I will dedicate tomorrow as Official Homework day, then spend the entire next day working on this. Yeah!

RigidChips ATV W.I.P

If you've never played RigidChips, you should. A quick way to describe it is a 3D model editor, in a sense.
But it's much MORE than just that!

In RigidChips, various objects and vehicles are constructed by combining parts with a scripting language. The program calculates air and water resistance realisitically so that many different models can be made using any basic text editor. Planes are controlled by changing the angles of flat pieces much like in a real airplane. Various games can be made by assigning scripts to the constructed objects, including multiplayer network games. Using models with gun chips, you can have mulitplayer battles. (from Wikipedia)

It's a "sandbox" physics programming "toy". The RigidChips program takes in some maps and chip models (many examples prebuilt, but the object is the be able to code your own), and users can drive their own RigidChips models as well. You have water, wind, and object. Everything is composed of Chips. It's can be hard to explain, so here's an example (a "ATV" - plane, car, and boat all in one - but it's a WORK IN PROGRESS).

3 guns, larger back wheels and 2 smaller front wheels,
and color coded according to my favorite colors.

3 guns, middle ones is the most powerful, side ones are 3/4
as powerful, but thus shoot at almost twice the rate of the middle one.

While turning slightly. Has a powerful turn, doesn't flip over very often.

Its under construction. The "wings" at the sides are really wings - that is the "work in progress" part. They don't fully transform yet. I've found that when extended though,they do fly rather well (that is, when extended, it glides pretty smoothly). It goes pretty fast, and rarely flips over unless driving at 210+ speeds and turning a full 360 degrees. Doesn't do too well turning on a steep slope, but can drive up one no problem most of the time. Previously scripted to self-destruct, but I decided that would be useless.

What to post about?

After I read Petri Purho's "first blog post", I decided to regularly update my blog, in order to make any viewers happy; and not to say that I would update my blog regularly, so I can't be held responsible (as if anyone cares, but oh well) if I suddenly stop posting regularly.

But now I've run out of stuff to post about! I mean, firstly, there are updates to the blog, things about myself, random stuff I find on the net, and "blog stuff" that people specifically make for the purpose of letting others use, in order to put on their blog.
Then there are Flash experiments, but I hardly have enough time to do that.

So what's really left is a few updates, random stuff, and stuff in my life.
Updates are almost gone - figured out most of the stuff that I can put on here.
Random stuff is scarce - I tend to search for fun games, not surf the net for websites.
My life is boring - unless I suddenly find out that I'm about to die, nobody cares about it (well, I care about my life, but as in, random boring event in it... bluhhh....)

I started out thinking, "Okay, I'll make this interesting: I will post a lot of Flash things, and write stuff here for fun." There's nothing fun left to write/type about, and I really don't know what to make with flash anymore.

Any suggestions?

INTJ Personality

I've apparently just decided to make a ton of posts about myself for no reason. But it's so very interesting...!

Well, I was test-surfing (that is, surfing the net for personality tests), and I found a "love personality test" on tickle.com. 'Well,' I said, 'forget the love part, this seems like the only halfway decent test I haven't taken yet'. So I took it, and it gave me the result that I have a INTJ personality, some rare personality that only 2-3% of the USA population have (although second to something with a 1%). That pretty neat, I think. It basically means that I'm a unemotional genius who keeps many ideas in my head and that can be a leader but prefers to stand in the background. Hmm, 5 presidents with INTJ personality.

I found the code in order to add a Digg button to each of my posts. Despite the fact that this blog certainly will not get any Diggs anytime soon, maybe in the future I'll become famous or something and it will. How would I know? I'm just trying to make this blog look cool. Anyhow, there is a Digg button for you to Digg a post. I also added some funky looking graphics ("bumper stickers") to the side of the blog - "I Hate Myspace", "CAUTION: This Blog Is Guarded By Irritable Pandas", and a Digg button for the actual blog itself. (What do you mean it's fake?)

I'm currently working on something that'll be done... in, probably, 2 years. A entire Flash thing. What it does (untested so far), or will do, is it will also record the posts. Simply meaning that it will transfer all my blog posts into a Flash thing, which will be at the top of the blog (that is, below the header). Posts-per-page will be changed to 1 or 3, since everything then would be viewed inside the Flash thing. Bunch of little tabs and such, blah blah blah.

And you're probably going, "Well, whatever; have fun with that!"

After clicking and spinning and standing in front of a closed door trying to echo-locate the doorknob for half of a half of a half of a half of a half of an hour, I finally did it. Well, almost. The sound sorta bounced off weirdly, and I hit the doorknob and hurt my hand. Maybe I shouldn't spin around, because I know what direction the door is at anyway - the direction leftish forward from the computer, that has a fan that makes loud noises. Then again, that's good hearing practice. Considering the doorknob is very small (and the researcher...dude... on TV said that humans should only be able to echo-locate something the size of a watermelon, although I was standing inches from the doorknob...), and I am not blind, I think that that was a great achievement. Well, that was fun.

In other news, I'm thinking of adding one more update - the Tag Cloud. I'll do that sometime today, hopefully, because tomorrow I'm busy with book reports.

I Can Echolocate (o yeah)

Yesh, I have been practicing me newfound powahs of ECHOLOCATION!

I saw it on TV, where a blind teen (had his eyes taken out when he was about 5, because he had cancer in both of them) learned to use echolocation to navigate around. Interestingly, he can shoot/play basketball, roller-blade, ride his bike - using echolocation. All he did was make clicking noises with this tongue, and he could figure out where everything was. There's also this older guy, who's blind and can do that too, and he's trying to teach other blind people to echo-locate. It's very interesting, because you can barely tell that they are blind, except for the clicking noises.

Well, I think I can sorta do it. If I close my eyes, walk a few steps, and the noise seems to get louder in one direction or another, I can tell that something is there. I've been trying to stand in front of a closed door, spin around, then try to echo-locate the doorknob. It actually works! - kinda. Weird. But it's "hazy" - I know it's in so-and-so direction, and about so and so far away from me. But then I reach for the doorknob - it's not there. Then I open my eyes, and it's a few inches in so-and-so direction. Must work best for blind people, since they have more acute hearing.

The closest I have ever gotten so far to actually finding the doorknob is when I was say 2 inches in front of it. Sorta a useless skill when you aren't blind - but I guess it would come in handy if I ever do become blind, or if I'm captured and blindfolded and handcuffed by pirates and escape and need to echo-locate my way through a forest (which is very likely to happen *sarcasm*), despite the fact that I would probably already be dead if that every happened, blindfolded+handcuffed or not.

Yes all you Harry Potter fans! - there was something you all missed while reading the book! There was a secret key, which was blown away (possibly incinerated in Harry's hands) by a fart from He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!
No I am just kidding. It was just something on my homework:

Now the substitute teacher told us that we could write anything - our regular teacher (Ms. O'neil) apparently said so. Now in class, one "genius" named Chris came up with this sentence:

The next day, Ms.O'neil was back, and we went through all the sentences that everybody made. And she explained on the chalkboard with flourish why Chris's sentence is a big "NO-NO" (yes, that's the word she used).

And for whatever reason, the entire class erupted into laughter. And maybe it was only funny because she started cracking jokes.

After staying up to midnight, and not having read the entire book, wrote a halfway decent book report and turned it in on Monday. Well, cross my fingers - hope I'll get a good grade on that.

YES, I did get a good grade! Got an A- (not too bad) , except for those darn run on sentences... you know what I mean those sentences that go on and one because I really don't know what to say and I think it sounds okay without periods but I guess that starting a sentence with and isn't acceptable but I thought it sounded/looked great, but oh well, that wasn't too much of the problem, the problem was that I would write something like this: "This was a really the great book", which isn't right, because, well, there's a THE right in the middle of it, but that's because I wasn't paying too much attention to it when i was editing and I was really sleepy and in my head it sounded good because I knew what I was talking about, but oh well, do you see what I mean by run-on sentences?

I've just reread this 1200 page book on Flash programming (yes, the entire thing... well, skimmed over the entire thing...), and at the back is a link to these great animated Flash websites. There's one that I really like, which makes me wonder if I can just delete everything on this blog, and put one box for just one enormous .swf? Maybe I could change the max posts per page to, say, 2 or 3, and find a way for Flash to copy all that and put into the big .swf... That would make this site look so much cooler. I could still keep the hit counter and stuff, but maybe to both the left and right sides. This layout is too ... average, you could say. It's just the one that comes with the blog. Just I don't know how to change it. Oh well.

But while I'm doing that , I have to do a Vocabulary assignment. Which due Tuesday. And I have to take the ISATs (Illinois Standard Assessment Test - or something like that), all of this week.

Bloggy ideas

I'll just warn the 4 *edit* - 6 - people who apparently ever visited or read anything in this blog that these first few posts will be about this blog. That's right - updates, ideas, and stuff like that. And then something that a blog should actually have, like stuff about my life, stuck into it someplace. I'm not going to put too much until its perfect for putting stuff. Yeah.

But to you 6 people (thank you hit counter!), please suggest something in the comments to this post. I'll list a few that I've been thinking about, and if that was your idea, say so, or just comment on it. It's really just to get this up and started, and since I'm a perfectionist, I can't help but perfect the layout and everything before I actually post anything blogish (...what do you mean that's not a word? Of course it's a word.)

But here are some of my ideas:

At the upper right, a Flash menu, containing all my Flash creations in categories. When a user selects one, the selected .swf appears on the screen in another box, above/below the blog posts. This box will also have a rating system.
"Tell your friends! Send them this link..." advertising.
New layout/theme (maybe change the blue/yellow/green backgrounds)
A shoutbox
A box with links to certain tagged items
A forum

No, not all of this will be done. It'll just happen this blog somehow spasmodically becomes popular. Hopefully seeing a 12 year old program will be enough. O:

Yes, I know it never fills up evn though there are like a hundred papers going into it - it all goes to show recycling conserves, while garbage cans take up space. This is the first post in my first blog. Isn't that great?
